1Elections for the presidency took place at the 41st GAISF General Assembly. On 27 April in Beijing, the General Assembly elected Hein Verbruggen as President of GAISF for a 4-year term of office. Hein Verbruggen is Vice-President of the UCI (cycling), IOC Member and Chairman of the IOC Coordination Committee for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.

The ICMG, International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, was accepted as an Associate Member. The IFSC, International Federation of Sport Climbing, the WDF, World Darts Federation and the IDBF, International Dragon Boat Federation, were accepted as Members. The Association counts to date 104 International Sports Federations and Organisations.
